My key takeaways from the first week of our “new normal”
As the week draws to a close, I think most people are feeling the same way about the global COVID-19 situation. It’s brought many challenges, many of which we couldn’t have prepared for. My first thoughts go out to everyone who is working around the clock to help flatten the curve, from healthcare workers and politicians, to businesses and delivery personnel. To everyone who is playing their part, in any way big or small, thank you.
During the course of this week, I have noticed a few things that I would like to share with you today:
1. People are amazing.
I can only speak specifically about my team at Paazl, but I have been blown away by how everyone has simply got on with it. It feels like the common sentiment is that our work hasn’t stopped, our working environment has simply changed. Like most businesses, we have turned to online solutions to keep things going and the buy-in has been immense. Even our bi-weekly “de-office” yoga sessions have moved online, with partners & kids now also taking part. We have a few enthusiastic runners at Paazl who have been able to follow All4Running’s tips on how to stay fit & safe. To end of the week, we’re doing our usual Friday drinks online, with the whole team joining a Hangouts call with their favourite thirst-quencher. Cheers!
2. Crisis breeds both innovation & compassion
There have been many amazing responses to this situation, notably from some of our partners. LVMH have started helping with the global shortage of hand sanitizers, while Greetz help you to say a special thank you to caregivers and healthcare workers by making 5000 free thank you cards available daily for the month of March. It’s also been great to see major international businesses taking responsibility in various ways.
3. Online Business and Delivery are vital during this period.
With so many people working from home, e-commerce and delivery are facing enormous pressure. Home-office necessities, food items, kids’ toys, workout equipment and many more items are being ordered en masse. Consumers should be aware of this and try to play their part to ease the pressure. For our clients, Paazl is on-hand to help in any way we can, including by offering advice for shipping options in areas of lockdown.
I hope that you have been able to enjoy the small things during this odd period. Maybe you have been able to see your children or partner more often, or perhaps you’ve been able to spend a bit more time getting fit, fixing things around the house or simply catching up on some much-needed rest. I’d like to encourage everyone to stay at home as much as possible, practice social distancing and most of all, stay safe.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone!
